Rosalyn Richter ’79
Richter, who graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1979, has served as administrative law judge for the city Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings, supervising judge for Bronx Criminal Court, and on the Midtown Community Court and New York City Criminal Court. Prior to that she served as executive director of Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund. Richter was elected to the New York Supreme Court in 2002 and joined the appellate division in 2009, making her one of the first out LGBTQ appellate judges in the country. At a 2019 Alumni Luncheon where she was honored as a “pioneering member of the bench,” Richter noted that it had been 40 years since her graduation, saying “No one then would have thought it possible that I would become a judge… I’m glad to say that in many ways, times have changed. But in other ways, to my disappointment, things have not changed.”
