Herman Badillo ’54 (1929–2014)

Badillo, who graduated valedictorian from BLS in 1954, became the first Puerto Rican–born member of the U.S. Congress, serving from 1971 to 1977. He later served as Bronx Borough President, Deputy Mayor of New York City, and a long-time civic advocate. BLS remembered him as “a political giant and trailblazer,” a former Law Review member, class speaker, and trustee of the school.
